Vegan Italiano is one of my favorite cookbooks. This evening I made the recipe called “Macaroni with Artichokes and Olives.” I have a feeling I’ll be making it a lot in the future. It was so simple to make and had a taste unique to my current usual dishes. I genuinely spent less than a half hour on it, which isn’t common even with recipes from “under 30 minutes” cookbooks!

I'll Yelp! if I want to!

If you live in Texas and would like an opinionated vegetarian to follow, I intend to review my food-related adventures regularly from now on using Yelp! Of course, there are other things I can review on there, but I do tend to have a one track mind…

Logo design contest

Attention artistic folks!

I am about to start a Kickstarter funding project for a vegan cafe and green education center called “Magna Mater,” which is one of many names given to the concept of the Great Mother. While I can and may launch the project on the Kickstarter website before I have a logo for the center, I would rather put my best face forward complete with amazing graphicalness.

This is where you come in.

While my partner and I are both artistic, neither of us can really draw nor convert our doodles to something that looks professional and business-like. If you can, and would like to design me a logo and a t-shirt, here is what I’m looking for.

Magna Mater will primarily be a vegan cafe. If we can locate space big enough for it, it will also be a reading room (research library) and function hall where classes, workshops, and ticketed concerts will take place. The function hall will also be a great place for private parties and ceremonies (like small weddings). Therefore, the logo will need to represent the earth, nature, and/or celestial bodies. It needs to incorporate the name, Magna Mater, and a female face or body. This logo will be going on t-shirts, tote bags, and possibly reusable cups as well as the Kickstarter website, the venue’s official website, etc. Additionally, I need a separate design that is similar to the logo that will be used on a t-shirt that will be available to Kickstarter pledges only. That’s TWO designs I need from applicants, at least.

What’s in it for you?

You or your design company will be credited on the Kickstarter page and official website. You will receive $50 (sorry, that’s all I can spare) and a t-shirt featuring the design you created. And if I receive the funding that I’m trying to raise, I will likely consult your design services in the future.

How do you enter?

This contest will run through July 15th. You can email your entries to lizzclements at gmail dot com. Graphics need to be high resolution for printing purposes.

Please spread the word about this contest! If you are vegan, are vegetarian, are earth-oriented, live in New England, think you might come by when it’s done, want a cool place to hang out, know of any vegans, vegetarians, or earth-oriented people, or just want to help a hippie realize her dreams, reblog this post, share it with people on Twitter, or post the link to this contest on your Facebook!

Hi

I’ve spent the last couple months or so devoted to my new position at work. I spend most of my free time playing Wizard101, cleaning, and reading. As usual, I have a million projects I’m working on, but nothing that seems to be fleshing itself out significantly. But I’ve realized that I never make any progress on anything and it’s lead me to the realization that if there’s something I’m good at I should probably stick with it for awhile. I’m going to try and keep writing about wizard rock for Examiner.com. And if this Pottermore thing is interesting I may become involved with that, too. We’ll see. In any case, the only other thing I’ll be genuinely devoting my time to is developing a business plan for a new Kickstarter venture; a vegan cafe and green educational center and meeting place to be established somewhere in Massachusetts or New Hampshire. While I have many ideas and plans to get the ball rolling, the first thing I really have to do is come up with a name for it…

I think I may enter these…

So, I love to cook. Entering Nate’s Meatless Meatballs’ cooking contest has inspired me to find more contests to enter. Here is a list of my possibilities.

Literal Latte: A contest involving a poem in which a specific food is mentioned. Jan. 31.

National Festival of Breads: Very prestigious and sponsored by Fleischman’s Yeast. Feb. 7.

Martha White National Cornbread Cookoff: Where cornbread is the main course! Mar. 1.

SunMaid Chocolate Raisin Contest: A unique recipe using chocolate covered raisins as an ingredient! Apr. 30.

I may find more in the future…

For those of you who don’t know, I entered my first recipe contest last week. Nate’s Meatless Meatballs is having a contest to see what you can do with their products. They uploaded copies of the pictures they’ve gotten so far. I just happened upon seeing it when I got on Facebook this evening. Made me super excited.
I FEEL LIKE THEY’RE BRAGGING ON ME BUT I KNOW THAT THEY’RE NOT.
I wanna win so badly. Have to find more contests to enter…

Mediocre Austin Job Market

I just spent some time mulling about Austin’s Craiglist. Dismal as usual. I have one job to apply for, and a few writing possibilities, but I doubt I’ll explore them. Really not qualified or interested in such seedy ventures.

I’ve had a generous heaping of success in regard to selling ebooks through Amazon’s Kindle marketplace. I think my best bet when it comes to making money from writing is to pen some short vegetarian cookbooks and to promote them alongside my Examiner and blog writing.

The wizard rock articles are going well! I’m assembling bits and pieces for an article on wizard rock in the UK, its past and its future. Anyone who has ideas for articles is free to suggest them!

Rusty’s second birthday is on the 29th. I’m not sure what to do about it. I discussed with Chris starting a tradition of buying him a new collar every year, but other than that, I’m kind of at a loss. He doesn’t have any doggie friends with whom to have playdates, so *shrug*

My brother got me some AWESOME books for Christmas. The first is Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar and the other is called Veggie Burgers Every Which Way. I’ve gotten ingredients to make the Vegan Cookies’ “Chocolate Agave Trailmixers” and I’ve made “Spinach Chickpea Burgers” from the other. They were great, by the way, and I may make another recipe from that book tonight.

Chris decided to start eating much healthier. We haven’t used cheese in anything since Christmas and she isn’t using refined sugar in her coffee anymore. She has digestive concerns and such changes will really help how she feels. We’ve also been doing yoga every night this week. It’s kicking my ass, but I am starting to feel better. =)
